2004To see or to burn

From the dichotomy suggested by the title, the sequence of paintings unfolds, extending the premises of the first term: to see, inviting the viewer to look beyond what appears at first glance. The one who looks, in this case, becomes a voluntary witness, participating with their own experiences, sensations, and thoughts in the scene they contemplate. In this way, within the situations the paintings present, there is much more: everything that the gaze of the other contains. Their own imagination, drawn from what they have read, lived, or observed, will awaken within the painting. It is the moment when the observer understands the figure of the witness as a catalyst for consciousness and for our shared memory, which is doomed to repeat the wrongs of history if we do not take responsibility for it.
