2005Interior Scenes

A number of people occupy the same room for a while. They are interchangeable individuals with whom anyone could feel identified. Their apparently inoffensive gestures create intriguing and at once ridiculous scenes that can lead to a certain level of stupidity with unforeseen consequences.
This series returns to the confusion already explored in Grotesque, through the theatrical staging of different puzzling actions: talking to oneself in front of an empty chair; sleeping on a pillow case stuffed with a strange body or using a pillow to hide inside a wardrobe; believing oneself to be invisible behind a curtain; hearing voices through the wall or covering one’s face with one’s hands in order to disappear.
The absurd is at odds with the apparent naturalness, betraying a certain disorder in behaviour. Isolated from one another, these people symbolise the automaton side of society, in which self-absorbed, ignorant and unfulfilled anonymous individuals— unknown even to themselves — not only fail to understand where their fears come from but actually create them themselves.
